How this all began…
I started drawing as just a wee kid. I grew up in a family of artists, starting with my Mother, who is a designer and muralist. My older sister is an designer and acrobat, and my other siblings are all illustrators. Growing up in a culture of creativity was huge for me. As an avid anime fan, my initial drawings were inspired by my favorite characters. But I knew I could grow beyond fan art. I’ll never forget when my Mom said this to me: “As an artist, your goal should be that if someone looks at your piece, your name should come before a style.” It stuck with me, and it was then that I began creating my own style and characters.
After graduating with a BFA in Printmaking, I wasn’t sure where to go from there. Traditional artwork paths didn’t feel right to me. All I knew was I had these creations in my head that I wanted to put to paper. I wanted to make weird stuff. I wanted to create unique pieces. I wanted to give a voice to the characters through my art.
My style centers around what I love most… animals, plants, and 90’s anime to name a few things. I especially am inspired by badass women, and I like to bring those personalities out in the pieces I create. I also love to create anything that portrays joy. I learned a long time ago that if I think something’s funny and draw it, that’s all that really matters. If I draw a fat cat sleeping on someones head, it’s because I think it’s hilarious.
I also consider myself a long-time nerd, and I love to make art about the things I nerd out about. This has led me to show my work at many comic and anime conventions across the country. It’s been such a fun way to expand my network and meet more artists.
I have continued to expand my work into custom portrait commissions and comics. Thank you for stopping by and letting me share my work with you!
